EMDR Therapy in Midvale, Perth and Online

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured, eight-phase therapy that helps people process distressing memories and experiences. It's commonly used to support people living with trauma, anxiety and panic, phobias, and grief and loss.
When something distressing happens, especially while the brain is still developing, the experience doesn't always get fully processed. The memory stays active, and the emotions from that moment stay linked to it. The brain's "switch for time" never turns off, so when something in the present triggers us, it can feel as though the event is happening all over again.

EMDR helps separate the event from the emotional charge attached to it. What happened, happened, but the emotional part is processed and settles, so remembering no longer means re-living it in the body. EMDR doesn't erase memories. It changes how they're held, so they lose their grip and are less easily triggered.

I like to describe it as building a bridge that lets unprocessed memories find their way to the part of the brain that naturally processes and files experience, known as Adaptive Information Processing.

Before we work with memories, we spend time on "resourcing": practical techniques that help you steady your emotions. This matters because the brain can keep processing between sessions. If you feel stirred up, you can use these tools to settle.

I offer EMDR in person in Midvale and online through secure video.

If you feel activated between sessions, you're welcome to text me, and I'll call you back as soon as I can during my working hours. We'll also talk through other options together in session, so you have the support that suits you best.

EMDR isn't the right first step for everyone. Together we'll look at your history and what you're hoping for, and decide whether it's the right approach and pace for you. To start the conversation, get in touch.
